THIS IS A SOLID EVENT! My good friend Nicelle Davis has organized a great day of poetry, with events all over the East Valley. Check out the website for locations and times. I’ll be part of a great line up called THE GOLDEN BUGS at the Van Nuys Courthouse West (14400 Erwin Street, Van Nuys, CA 91401). We start at 2 and (dig it) readers will include – Magdalawit Makonnen. Derrick Brown, Brandon Brown, Jeremy Radin, Susan Hayden, and Gary Lemons! Here’s the official blurb:
NEVERMORE METRO Immersive Arts Festival is LA’s first immersive arts festival that explores the East San Fernando Valley with a FREE all-day poetry and arts festival at the Van Nuys Courthouse & Civic Plaza and a ticketed secret haunting along METRO’s Orange Line through the Eclectic Company Theatre @ Laurel Canyon.
Check-in, enjoy some poetry, get a METRO Card and travel on a guided tour with the Unnamed Narrator to each of the performance spaces throughout the day. Stay and enjoy the free Civic Poetry Festival afterward at the Plaza!
The festival guided adventure will coexist with regular METRO riders and community passersby, who will be free to mingle with audience members and performers and join the experience. For one day, you will be in the driver’s seat, discovering the hidden treasures of the East San Fernando Valley, dining with local street vendors, and exploring the visceral power of poetry and immersive performance as never before!
Nevermore is the brainchild of Brian Sonia-Wallace, David Mack, and Nicelle Davis. Artistic partners include Eclectic Company Theatre, Imaginese Free Productions, Las Lunas Locas, Southern California Handweavers’ Guild, USC-VR, Write Bloody Press, Tia Chucha’s Bookstore, Yak Press, and Melrose Poetry Bureau.
Funding is provided in part by the Center for Cultural Innovation Creative Economic Development Fund, City of Los Angeles Artist-in-Residence program for District 2, and our amazing Kickstarter contributors.
